When German police viciously quell a protest against the shah of Iran, popular journalist Ulrike Meinhof rebels against her dishonest marriage, walks away from her children and joins radical anarchist Andreas Baader. Together with Baader's girlfriend, Gudrun Ensslin, they form the violent Red Faction Army, and together perpetrate a slew of terrorist attacks as a way of disrupting the fabric of what they see as an increasingly fascist state.

Film tells the story of two old people who seem to meet for the first time in their lives and develop a loving relationship. There is the old gentleman who invites the woman he overheard at the piano to visit the planetarium and tells her about his life on a walk. And then there is the beautiful old woman, who listens to him with rapt attention and assures him that everything he tells her is fascinating for her. But you can sense that something is wrong in the woman's parting words in the evening, and you soon realize why she seems so melancholy: The old man is suffering from senile dementia and has already forgotten his meeting with his girlfriend the next morning. Heinz Strunk, plagued by crater-like skin rashes, lives with his sick mother in Hamburg-Harburg in the 1980s. As a saxophonist, he tours the North German lowlands with the dance combo "Tiffanys". The attractive Moni works as a photo reporter at the local newspaper of her small hometown Lüsgraf. One day, when the bricks-and-mortar shakers, makers of electric shavers and the village's biggest employer, face bankruptcy, the male workforce occupies the factory to prevent them from selling to a dubious investor. Two 17-year-old pupils, Julia and Philip, are a successful beach volleyball team, and are to take part in a tournament in Mallorca. This is not easy for Julia, because her boyfriend, Andy, is rather jealous, and Philip is constantly distracted by young women. Julia, however, is extremely ambitious and is determined to win.
