Muriel McKay was kidnapped from her home in Wimbledon on 29th December 1969 and her body was never found. The media was enlisted to try and help the police to find her. But the police blamed the media involvement for their failures.

The brutal murder of her parents leaves daughter and only witness, Finn, injured and traumatised. The police place her at the remote house of trauma psychologist, Dr. Sam Graham. As Finn begins to recover, the cleaner who had first discovered the murdered couple dies suspiciously. When Finn and Sam's boyfriend, Danny, disappears, Sam must put herself and her little daughter at risk to uncover the truth.

The Second World War is ending and throughout Britain, evacuees are returning home to their families - but not the families they remember.
