Mohammad Mokhtari

It’s an ironic portrayal of Iran’s history by the inhabitants of the city of Isfahan, presented in four parts, and about the wind that sweeps everything away.

A mosaic of stories explore Iranian modernity. Following a Persian literary model, personal dilemmas, fanciful speculations and historical motifs follow one another, establishing evocative correspondences between them. From the commitment with which the characters narrate events, it is clear that, beyond history, human time corresponds to myth and anecdote: mythological birds, misregistered surnames, scars from chemical weapons, and memories of deceased women.

After an unsuccessful marriage, young Maryam thinks of committing suicide in a way which would at least be of some use to others. She thus enters the Iran-Iraq war as a reporter. She is surrounded by suffering and pain and her time spent in the devastated desert landscape, armies spilling over from one side to the other depending on which has the upper hand, totally changes her vision of the world. 'Good Night Commander' describes the terror of war as seen through the eyes of a fragile woman who manages to overcome her thoughts of suicide on the battle field and eventually chooses life over death.

A documentary based on Faraj Sarkohi's interviews with Houshang Golshiri. Kaveh Golestan filmed these interviews between 1993 and 1996.

The documentary "A Poet is Killed" recounts the story of the murder of contemporary poet and writer Mohammad Mokhtari, who was killed during The chain murders in 1998 in Iran.
