Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic accentuate the colors, rhythms and passion of the music of Argentina's leading composers on this invigorating evening at the Hollywood Bowl: Astor Piazzolla, the master of the New Tango, whose four tangos the Tango Buenos Aires dance company performs on stage, known worldwide as the most authentic and uncompromising representative of the tango, Alberto Ginastera, one of the most important classical composers of the Americas in the 20th century and Piazzolla's first teacher, and Lalo Schifrin, who, in addition to his concert music, is the composer of the famous soundtracks for Mission: Impossible and Dirty Harry. His "Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra", a world premiere recording, is composed by Ángel Romero, an iconic master of the classical guitar.

The story of two friends who met on the eve of their fiftieth birthday: musician Astor Piazzolla and architect José Pons. They never imagined that their friendship would change their lives forever.

Astor Piazzolla revolutionized the tango. By breaking with the codes of traditional tango, he brought this popular Argentine music from dance floors to concert halls around the world and is now recognized as a major composer of the 20th century. From numerous unpublished private archives, the voices of Astor and his children paint a unique portrait of this complex man.

Astor Piazzolla performs an evocative set of tangos at the 1984 Montreal Jazz Festival. Lovingly restored by Piazzolla's former student Richard Galliano, this footage captures seven songs by the renowned accordionist. Born in Argentina in 1921, Piazzolla proves his talent for injecting a range of emotions into his songs, which include "Lunfardo," "Muerte del Angel," "Adiós Nonino," "Resurrección del Angel," "Chin Chin" and "Otoño Porteño."

Piazzolla and his Quintet perform with the Cologne Rundfunk Orchestra conducted by Pinches Steinberg in this film by Jose-Montes Baquer. Piazzolla is also featured in conversation.
