NRThe town of Pen is tucked away in the Maharashtra countryside, where the festival of Ganpati is celebrated with great fervour, and Mr. Anand Narayan Deodhar, the chief sculptor of Pen's most notable kala mandir, is at the forefront of its idol-making activity. We see the condition of the art of idol making through his eyes. These sculptors' works seem to get absorbed over time by the new, developing art forms as they strive to continue living. Through a simple exploration of Anand’s cultural, historical and artistic roots as an idol maker along, and the experiences of some other members of his workshop, one is forced to wonder if every traditional art form will cease to exist. Ankuran is a greater reflection on the artistry of idol makers as a whole.
