Directing
Sam Roy
Born 1999-02-28 · Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, UK
Originally from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, Sam moved to London to study Media and Communications at Goldsmiths University and fell into Directing in his third year. Since finishing his first film 'Don't Tell The Boys', he has gone on to write and direct a number of his own films before co-founding Maze Bound Films, his film production company, at the start of 2024. Fascinated by the social realism genre and themes of masculinity and inheritance, Sam takes pride in identifying himself as a generalist. Alongside shooting his own films, he has worked in freelance videography roles, post-production houses, he currently advises on filmmaking courses at his old university and uses this experience to inform his creative and logistical processes. He feels strongly that, while its impossible to be an expert in all areas, a good director is someone who understands the filmmaking process in its entirety. He believes that a director should be able to speak with competence and clarity to any member of the crew, at any point of production, steering all projects to a precise destination.
