The Dawu Mountain Range is shrouded in mist, yet Baru, a 28-year-old Indigenous man, weaves through the lush forest like it’s his own backyard. On an illicit hunt to prove himself worthy of his pregnant girlfriend, the army deserter is pursued by policeman Sam and poacher Sakinu. As Baru ventures deeper into Paiwan ancestral territory, memories of hunting with his late father reconnect him with Indigenous culture and Nature’s spirits. Yet economic realities drive him to violate a historical taboo, leading to a fateful encounter with the mythical Black Bear, revered by his tribe. Set amid the 1990s Indigenous rights movement in Taiwan, The Last Hunter redefines heroism through a poetic journey into Indigenous spirituality.

NRIs it possible that a group of people share our culture and fate, but are drifting in another part of the ocean? Taiwanese aboriginal musicians, Suming and Baobu, are invited to New Caledonia for a month of musical exchange. They lived with local Kanak musicians, playing music and sometimes composing together. In the end, they all found that the secret to innovation and globalization is to re-discover one’s own cultural roots.
