Vytautas Landsbergis

The film reveals the meeting and dispute between two close personalities (souls) – M.K. Čiurlionis and Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, filmmaker Vytautas Oškinis shared a home with his grandfather, former head of state Vytautas Landsbergis. Their quiet domestic life is punctuated by political commentary and the sounds of piano and flute. As Landsbergis revisits his most important documents and works before his fragile memory fades, Oškinis’s camera captures a story about the bond forming between generations, and about a spirited, creative mind residing in a body increasingly resistant to it. Their artistic collaboration culminates in a joint appearance on the contemporary opera stage in the film’s finale.

In rural postwar Lithuania, the Šatai and Kaminskai families live beside each other. A cow sold to the Kaminskai dies, creating enmity between the families. Andrius Šatas and Liuka Kaminskaitė grow up together and fall in love.

This exhibition focuses on Jonas Mekas’ 365 Day Project, a succession of films and videos in calendar form. Every day as of January 1st, 2007 and for an entire year, as indicated in the title, a large public (the artist's friends, as well as unknowns) were invited to view a diary of short films of various lengths (from one to twenty minutes) on the Internet. A movie was posted each day, adding to the previously posted pieces, resulting altogether in nearly thirty-eight hours of moving images.

The film is about journalist Daiva Žeimytė-Bilienė's attempt to reveal not only the political and social portrait of Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, but also to get to know him as a person - his personal values, his attitudes, and the challenges of his past and future.
