Takeshi Kitano plays a version of himself in which he's a struggling director cycling through a number of different genres in an effort to complete his latest project.

Collaborations between some of contemporary Japan's finest musicians and filmmakers. The Nihon no Uta Executive Committee produced a series of original short films inspired by the classic Japanese songs included in the albums Nihon no Uta Vol. 1–4, released by commmons (founded by Ryuichi Sakamoto). Each film pairs a celebrated musician with an acclaimed filmmaker, creating a unique fusion of music and visual storytelling. The story centers on Kurumi Hosoya, a high school senior and member of the newspaper club, who is one week away from turning 18. When her childhood friend, Naoki Tachibana, gains sudden fame for rescuing an elderly woman on the last day of his 17th year, Kurumi becomes determined to achieve something remarkable before her own birthday. Her efforts, however, often lead to unintended consequences.

The story takes place in Japan in both 1986 and 2006. The 1986 storyline follows a gamer named Daisuke who wants to confess his feelings for Kumiko, a girl he likes — all while trying to reclaim his copy of the Famicom (NES) game Mighty Bomb Jack that he lent out. In 2006, the hapless game company manager Arino-kacho struggles to complete Mighty Bomb Jack in front of fans. The storylines of the boy who loves Famicom and the middle-aged man who loves Famicom eventually merge into one.
