On the edge of a Moldovan village lives a wise old and infinitely lonely Aunt Ruta. She is always eager to help her fellow villagers, to cheer them up, to give them useful advice. It was not easy for her to forgive a long-standing offense, but she finds the strength to forget it and visits her dying relative to ease the last hours of his life.

The young part-time student Boris Kulikov, upon arriving in the village of Kardymovka, learns that Buneev, the pier chief who lived there until his death, was his father. Interested in his father’s past, Boris discovers that Buneev once gave up his career as an architect after his bridge design was rejected. Boris strives to prove that his father’s ideas were innovative and valuable.

The film is a play about the collapse of the Vanyushins merchant family. The head of the family is a stranger to his children. The insight turned out to be cruel: sharp contradictions, anger, enmity, greed tear the family apart. Not finding a way out of this situation, he commits suicide.

Three boys, Jura, Lenya and Jeanne, visit a village. They meet Tonya, a girl with good dancing skills, and bet to win her love. Tonya develops feelings for Lenya, which he later realises to be real.

Commissar Selivanov and several Red Army soldiers manage to escape from captivity. They are being pursued by the White Guards and Basmachi, led by a colonel who was released on parole by Selivanov.

District doctor Katya Luzina has recently graduated from medical school. Her first steps in the profession aren’t easy: at first, she faces patients’ skepticism about her youth, daily routine, and even deceit. The march of Soviet and Mongolian formations through the Gobi sands and the Khingan spurs was not only a brilliant military operation, but also a warning of the use of bacteriological weapons by Japan.
