After two characters from fairy-tales emerge in the real world, it turns out they are not so different from ordinary people.

For some time now, life in the family of Kozma Josan, the chairman of a collective farm in one of the Moldovan villages, has not been going well. In response to the indifference of his wife, Domnica, the Goat fell in love with Olga, a fellow villager, who reciprocated his feelings. But their happiness is like wormwood, bitter: everywhere they are haunted by Domnica's heavy gaze, in which anxiety and pain are frozen.

A journalist and the beautiful daughter of one of them accompany them in their long journey. Folklore melodrama praising the truth and the beauty inherently tied to nature and folk rituals.

Musician Stefan meets a young attractive woman Lidia. Stefan is going on tour to Austria, and Lydia, "accidentally" remembering her Viennese acquaintance, asks to give her a souvenir from Moldova. In Vienna, Stefan is met by people who are well aware of his private life and even familiar with his diary. The musician begins to suspect something is wrong, but when his daughter's well-being is threatened, Stefan becomes truly worried...

In the 18th century, Moldavian land was under the yoke of foreign invaders and the oppression of local boyars. A national liberation struggle unfolded in the country, in which the Hajduk led by Ataman Badiu actively participated. Boyar Manya, with the help of mercenaries, managed to capture him. But the boyar's daughter, who loved Badiu, gathered a detachment of Hajduk, who freed their chieftain.

A difficult historical period in the life of the Moldovan people, who fought in the 1930s against the yoke of royal Romania and for reunification with the Soviet Union.

Spring of 1944. In a small village on the banks of the Dniester River, at the kulak estate of Sanda Țițan, everyone awaits the arrival of Soviet power in their own way. Sanda’s eldest son, a Romanian officer, leaves home with the occupying forces. The younger sons head into the forest, taking their mother’s last savings with them. Nikolai withdraws deeper into himself, realizing the futility of his life and vaguely hoping for something new, something bright. And standing firm amidst all this turmoil is Alexandra, Sanda’s steadfast daughter-in-law.

The events take place in 1919 in Bessarabia.

The film brings back to the screen another page of the underground youth struggle against the fascist occupiers of Moldova — the Romanian Cigurans.
