Danaji, a farmer from the state of Maharashtra in rural India, is accompanied by his eight-year old son Ganya to the city to sell his onions at the Mandi (market). While the child is enamoured by the sights and sounds of the place, the farmer has to fight a Kafkaesque battle to find the right price for his produce.

Pampered by his loving and caring parents, an eight-year-old boy's life takes a turn for the worse when he learns a hidden truth about himself. Soon, he begins to distance himself from his mother.

Adnyat follows an eight-year-old boy who doesn't know his religion and explores prayers and rituals like a curious traveler. As he learns hymns, tries on customs, and meets both warmth and suspicion, he discovers that faith - stripped of pride and prejudice - becomes a simple way to belong, love, and show compassion.
