A drama set in the East End of London in 1889, during the aftermath of the "Ripper" murders. The action centres around the notorious H Division – the police precinct from hell – which is charged with keeping order in the chaotic streets of Whitechapel. Ripper Street explores the lives of characters trying to recover from the Ripper's legacy, from crimes that have not only irretrievably altered their lives, but the very fabric of their city. At the drama's heart our detectives try to bring a little light into the dark world they inhabit.

Sean has a flaming row with his wife Nuala when he comes home from the pub one night--with a couple of good-looking women. Nuala goes off in the car, leaving Sean at home. When he wakes up the next morning, he finds himself covered in blood with no idea what happened the night before. Even as a murder investigation goes on around him in the following days, Sean has no clear understanding of the events of that night and of who is dead.

The story of barbaric murders committed in the midst of a rural community in Joyce Country, on the border between counties Galway and Mayo in 1882 and the subsequent trial in Dublin. The trial led to the unjust hanging or life imprisonment of innocent people based on the testimonies of false witnesses and the dishonesty of the British authorities and the gentry.

A young musician with a tragic past is crippled in a car accident and given a chance at redemption when he is recruited by a violent, avant-garde circus.
