A series of twelve "letters" from different parts of Vietnam in the days following the 1954 Geneva Conference, written in images and narrated in voice-over.

The year 1953 ends. Mines that failed to fulfil the plan are not allowed to light their star. Socialist realism treated seriously – with the memory of the mining tradition, with respect for the work of the old, with hope for the young.

One of several films by the Hoffman-Skórzewski duo, made as part of the "black series" of Polish documentaries showing social problems hidden from viewers behind the façade of socialist realist productions until the mid-1950s. The subject of the film are the effects of alcoholism, whose innocent victims are children.
