An American actor in Tokyo struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese 'rental family' agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients' worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality.

Shiino one day finds out that her best friend Mariko has committed suicide. After snatching Mariko's urn from her abusive father, Shiino heads to Marigaoka Cape, a place Mariko always wanted to go.

Tetsu Umekawa is a member of a motorcycle gang in Oita, who spends his time playing thinner with his delinquent friends and bullying the top students. With his natural good sense of timing, he rises through the ranks of the bikers and starts dating a beautiful girl, but this is short-lived, as one setback after another hits him. Disgusted with his hometown, Tetsu moves to Tokyo in a fit of pique. He moves in with his brother, a successful professional boxer. However, he rebels against his brother, who leads a stoic life in order to keep winning, and ends up becoming a henchman of the yakuza. Tetsu leads a lazy life, but then he learns that his brother has died during a match...

The performances of the actors, who are by no means the best, are humorous and tasteful, and their individual atmospheres are brought to life, perhaps due to the fact that they have made two films with almost the same cast. Daisuke Fukuhara, who plays Fukuhara, gives a particularly good, natural performance as a man who is completely off his rocker. There is also a distinctive sense of rhythm in the time-lapse explanations that connect the short shots, making this film unique in that it is somehow stylish and at the same time funny.
