The Cockettes

A series of erotic vignettes and sexual imagery (mostly of the gay variety) are presented courtesy of The Cockettes (a gay/drag performance art ensemble of late 60s/early 70s San Francisco).

Filmed in a remote location at Land's End, San Francisco. The film is constructed around a formal central idea. The scenes are constructed to suggest a number of popular European directors of the period, but these styles morph into a free-for-all of film genres. A quasi-personal voice over dovetails with minimum dialogue scenes. The film winds up being something of an essay, illustrating the major life choices and laid-back values of the hippie-era . The brief appearance of members of the Cockettes (the reigning company of drag queen camp at the time) and a cast happy to discard their clothes when asked adds to the general mayhem.

Sebastian (b. Milton Miron), a 90-year-old accountant and tax preparer in Los Angeles, reflects on his pursuit of a creative life as an underground filmmaker and impresario during San Francisco's counter-cultural heyday.

An erotic satire that parodies the styles of Fellini, Busby Berkely and Woody Allen, THE RISE AND FALL OF THE WORLD depicts the sexual fantasies of a suburban couple as it explores the follies and foibles of sexual mores and practices.
