Jean Lacouture and Patrick Rotman interview the witnesses of François Mitterrand's life. Their testimonies, which both complement and contradict each other, write the story of a life: the youth, the Vichy regime and the Resistance during the Second World War, the Fifth Republic and the Algerian war, the conquest of the Elysée, the backstage of power and the secrets of a president.

Six weeks of exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Lionel Jospin's 2002 presidential campaign, from the strategy rooms to the night everything collapsed. A gripping inside account of France's most shocking political upset.

With archival footage from INA commented on by political figures, this documentary traces the history of the debate that has divided the left over secularism, from the emergence of a militant Islam in the late 1980s.
