The series tells the remarkable story of how three young men, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde and Fredrik Neij, united in the fight for a free internet and founded the download site The Pirate Bay. Their idea of free access to information, music, books and movies would fundamentally change the internet.

Haparanda police officer Hannah Wester makes a macabre discovery when a dead wolf is found with human remains in its stomach. The deceased seems to have connections to a bloody gang showdown in Finland. The find soon turns out to be the first in a series of brutal events that shake the small border town to its core.

Anna, a young and naive woman, moves to Knutby to become part of the free church congregation as a nanny, which to her seems like a warm and pious community. But soon the idyll that never existed crackles, and manipulation, power games, social exclusion, group pressure, brainwashing, fanaticism and both more and less religiously sanctioned left-wing chatter end in murder and grief.
