Thangavelu, A poor bus-stand coolie is talked into faking his identity as a wealthy Singaporean engineer to marry a rich girl (Janaki). When her father catches on, every lie only digs the hole deeper.

Hamsaveni, a teacher, agrees to marry an illiterate man on the condition that she will stay with her ailing father after marriage. However, on the wedding night, he refuses to comply with her terms.

A son assumes that his father killed his mother and in a fit of rage, he also rapes the woman who was to marry his step-brother. However, the woman decides to help him overcome his misgivings.

Velayudham leaves his village in hopes of finding a job to return and marry his lover. However, things get complicated when the daughter of the man who gives him a job falls in love with Velayudham.

Pandian falls in love with his neighbor Maithili and anonymously helps her continue her education. However, Pandian's room-mate Prakash gets all the credit for the good things done by Pandian.
