The pharmacist Bourrachon learns that his wife Adrienne deceives him with Dr. Rigal, whose specialties he sells in his pharmacy. His sister, the authoritarian Mrs. Bruneau, urged him to divorce and introduced Geneviève to substitute Adrienne. But after five months of marriage, Geneviève gives birth to a child whose real father turns out to be Henri, the salesman of the Bourrachon pharmacy. Mrs Bruneau will then try to persuade her brother to bring an action disavowal of paternity for the honor of the family and especially to protect the inheritance of his own daughters. But Bourrachon will eventually become attached to the child and endorse his paternity.

Dora Nelson, a famous actress, leaves both her husband Philippe de Moreuil and the role she was playing in a movie directed by Nivert, to follow her lover Santini in Italy. But she soon realizes that Santini deceives her with a girl named Elsa. In vexation she decides to return to her husband and to her career. Unfortunately for her, Suzanne Verdier, a little working girl, has in the meantime replaced her not only in the film she had left unfinished but in her husband's heart as well. Dora eventually understands she must step aside.

An art historian has an affair with a young saleslady while his disaffected wife cheats on him in turn. Both illicit relationships end in little boys being born around the same time.

A young man, having seduced his friend's mistress, undertakes to leave his wife to the latter for one night, when he is married. A few years later, the friend claims his due and the young man introduces him to his so-called wife.

Mr. Silvestry, nicknamed "The Hen" because he is raising his five daughters alone, for whom he does the housework, the shopping and the cooking, is invited to the Côte d'Azur by a wealthy American.

Based on the popular stage play by Georges Courteline. The film is set in 1885. It focuses on a group of troops, a mix of regulars and reservists, and their different responses to the daily military routines. A crisis emerges when a General pays a visit while two deserters are still absent.
