About the Swedish author Agnes Von Krusenstjerna during the period of her marriage to David Sprengel. In the hallucinatory opening sequence she is brought in a straitjacket by her husband and two psychiatric nurses through the Venice Carnival nocturnal antics to a mental hospital in the city. With her is a manuscript of her autobiography, which she calls "her child". The book is Agnes showdown with her family, and in flashbacks presented, Agnes progress from the author of innocent girls' books to serious and self-consuming novelist.

A young Finnish-Swedish man is forced to face his repressed childhood when the national duty calls.

The film takes place in 1940 in Sweden, during the final stages of World War II. The film will reflect 3 different perspectives of the same story, which at the end intertwine. The first part will follow the self-righteous entrepreneur who smuggles alcohol into Sweden and sells it black and makes good money. The Nazis from Germany have free access to Swedish land and one of them hears about this black market and wants a monopoly on it. The Swedish booze smuggler agrees to this, but in secret he forges plans on how to overthrow the Nazis and try to end the war. The second part will follow the perspective of the booze smuggler's partner and how he actually controls the whole operation to stop the war without the booze smuggler actually realizing that they are the brains behind the operation. The third story is about a Jewish family who moved to Sweden to escape the Nazis, they are doing well in Sweden and run a bakery and cafe.

After years of hard work, the old owner of Augustssons retired with honor. Left behind are the loyal nanny Berta (Jeanette Capocci) and the diligent but somewhat nervous foreman Bergman (Mikael Riesebeck), who are ready to take over and lead the factory into a new era, along with the kind but perhaps not always strict financial manager Putte (Jojje Jönsson).
