Musician and Scientist from the Soviet Russia goes to Türkmenistan to explore and learn about Turkmen National Music. Whilst drifitng through the desert and writing down the music he learns, he comes the across the son of the legend: Karkara.

Fifteen-year-old Aina is going through her first difficulties. For the first time, she felt lonely and unprotected. The father left after the divorce, the mother is trying to arrange her personal life. The only true friend - grandfather - dies in Aina's arms. For her inconvenient character - the desire to get to the bottom of right and wrong actions - the girl was nicknamed mad. Aina, who cannot tolerate lies, has a hard time both at school and at home. But she is strong because she has her own ideas about a happy life.

The film covers the period from 1903 to the mid-1920s. In the center of the epic narrative is the story of the difficult love of the poor Berda and the daughter of the shepherd Uzuk, who will be freed and made happy by the revolution.

A city girl from Turkmenistan came to a collective farm to marry her boyfriend. The groom suggested returning to the city to avoid having a wedding according to strict Turkmen customs. The girl refused, wanting to win the approval of the groom’s mother.

...Komsomol member Begench, who served in the army, and his fellow villager Vellek, whom they met in the city, return to the village. The kulaks, led by Kuiki and his son Cherkez, run everything in the village. They are turning people against the collective farm, sabotaging the sowing campaign. The Basmachi kill the chairman of the collective farm. Residents of the village rise up to fight. In the battle with the Basmachi, many of them die. Nevertheless, the supporters of the collective farm system are victorious and go out into the field in the spring.

The film tells about the people who built a full-flowing river in the very heart of the Black Desert — the Karakum Canal, linking the waters of the Amu Darya and the Caspian Sea. Life and work in the desert are far from easy, yet the film focuses not on the harshness of everyday life but on the moral atmosphere within the working collective.

Gummat, a rural firefighter, lives in one of the collective farms of Turkmenistan. He is a kind, honest, selfless man who has preserved the purity and integrity of his soul until adulthood. He is very conscientious about his duty and trains his team, Besher's son and Shukur's watchman, according to all the rules of fire science.… A flighty neighbor, Gazelle, constantly whispers to him about thieves and grabbers who rob collective farm goods. The good Gummat can't believe it for a long time — until he agrees to look into the barn of the warehouse manager Batman. And then Gummat does everything to expose the fraudster.

The confrontation of two, in their own right, sides: the young chairman of the collective farm Dzhupbar, who dreams of rebuilding the village "in a new way", and the elders, who do not want to part with the long-standing plane tree, the beauty and pride of the village.
