After the elevators at a New York City skyscraper begin inexplicably malfunctioning, putting its passengers at risk, mechanic Mark Newman and reporter Jennifer Evans begin separate investigations. Newman gets resistance from superiors at his company, which manufactured the elevator, while additional elevator incidents cause several gruesome deaths. The police get involved and suspect that terrorists are responsible, but a far stranger explanation looms.

The mayor of Sunny Dale see a chance to get rid of the Flodder family: They send the asocial bunch for an international exchange to New York. There they get confused with a Russian delegation of medical doctors while the street worker Werner who accompanies them becomes imprisoned.

A deranged doctor gets in to a car accident and burns beyond recognition. Years later he awakes from his coma and stalks a young male nurse and his girlfriend, killing everyone along the way.

A film crew whose members can't stand each other is trying to make a slapstick comedy in the style of Buster Keaton. It's about Boy, who runs a failing desert service station. Things get even worse when a business competitor arrives.

"Man-maker" Anne doesn't do relationships, but projects: every six months, she picks up a man and grooms him into a desirable specimen. Once she's successful, she breaks up with him and starts another project. That goes well, until she starts developing feelings for her new project partner.
