In a small town on the edge of wild country, an eccentric and delinquent mother has had enough of the rules. Crushed by her mistakes and by a society that doesn't give a damn – or a second chance – to people like her, she'll do anything to prove to her children, and to herself, that she still is a good person.

Told episodically and bordering between the fictional and the documental, the film intimately interweaves the life stories of young women who no longer have a real home with their own families. They are given refuge in a temporary youth home, where they and their carers bond to form a new family. La Mif is a safe haven for wounded protagonists who do not spare themselves or others.

In a gritty neighborhood of Geneva, a double-decker bus becomes a refuge where social workers guide refugees through the labyrinth of Swiss asylum laws. On the frontlines of a Kafkaesque struggle, they face ethical dilemmas where compassion clashes with rigid regulations. As frustration turns into determination, solidarity edges closer to illegality, raising a crucial question: when does empathy become a "crime of compassion"?

Wolf and Noah, brother and sister, meet every Sunday and pickpocket. After robbing a passerby in a shopping center, they meet Monica, a woman in her sixties who invites them to her home. An unexpected bond is created between the three.
