Paul leaves home with his best friend Max on the first day of summer vacation. Following in the footsteps of Paul’s missing father, the boys venture into the forest of the Swabian Alb and into a mysterious cave. For the first time in their lives, they truly feel carefree surrounded by forest and mountains. But the adventure challenges that await them are much bigger than they thought.

While the world is in lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lore has to cope with a painful loss: her mother has died. Back in the small town of Erkelenz in North Rhine-Westphalia, she struggles against entrenched family structures and a paralyzing bureaucracy. Above all, she has to find a way to come to terms with the death and say goodbye to her mother.

Accepting her offer of rent-free living, they embark on a surreal journey, encountering societal judgments and forming unexpected connections that shape their intertwined destinies.
