Along her surrealistic journey to find her mother, Terezka entwines reality and fantasy and meets a man that is hired to burn clothes; a woman buried on the ground; a young bride that is marrying the forty and something year-old widow of his brother to support her family as a tradition in their village; her younger brother that is intern in a special school; a decadent TV comedian and his wife; a powerful mobster in the kitchen of a restaurant; one lover of her mother in her former address; and finally her promiscuous mother that advises her to travel through the world.

A story based on two short stories by the Slovak classic Martin Kukučín, which in a humorous and kindly tone brings closer the nature of our people.

The story tells about a girl who was poor, but on the other hand so good and hardworking that she received a special gift from fate. A spinning wheel on which she could spin golden threads. And there was a count who liked her, but he liked the gold she brought with her to his house even better. And because he was greedy and wanted more and more gold, he decided that he too would weave the threads, even if his fingers were to fall off. And so he wove and wove, forgetting all that was good and beautiful around him. The girl, his friends, the whole world. But until then, the golden threads are woven, until the yarn breaks and fate says enough...

Magdalene has everything except one little thing: money. But the beautiful and wise daughter of a poor peasant knows that one day, the day will surely come when everything will turn around for the better. It sounds unbelievable at first, but her father's current troubles may be Magdalene's redemption. For when the young judge rules against him, it is Magdalene who writes an appeal against the decision. And the judge can't wait to meet the author of such a perfectly worded objection. When she appears at his door, the judge doesn't hesitate for a second to embarrass her by offering her the opportunity to join his service. Jakubisko’s comedy about infidelity inside the community of lumberjacks in three chapters. First, a group of men gets to know that there comes a group of female brigadiers to a near village and tries to seduce them, which won’t come out as precisely as they wanted. In the next chapter, one girl got pregnant and lumberjacks tries to solve this by a wedding to a man called Domino. War takes its cruel toll, which everyone must pay. It hits a small Slovak village especially hard, where the struggle for a bare life becomes a test of human character. For two impoverished friends, Jakub and Maja, struggling through poverty is more than difficult. Jakub delivers sour milk from somewhere on his cart to the entire village and lives in a dilapidated house with his sister Tereza, whose caregiver and guide through life is the experienced woman Mara, who provides herself with money from seduced soldiers. Maja, on the other hand, is a foundling and homeless man who does whatever he can to survive the next day. The only consolation for the two inseparable friends are the circulating tales of a kind of promised land, where there is no poverty or hunger, and where they could both go. Only this vision, this idea alone keeps the two of them and the rest of the village on their feet, and gives them hope for a better tomorrow.

A love story of a couple of mature people of completely different characters, who lived and worked side by side for years only as colleagues, but whose accidental trip to Slovakia to attend the wedding of Hedin's sister brought them closer, probably for the rest of their lives...

It is summer 1944. The war is far away from Slovak mountains for the time being. The head of forest management Borodác brings a new employee to complete the eight woodcutters work team of Czechs, Slovaks and one Pole - the young guy is Martin Uher, a former clerk form Prague. The eight tough men do not trust the newcomer at first, but as time is passing, they got used to him. After some time, Martin gets next to Julika, a young wife of the gamekeeper Tkác (Vlado Müller) and they begin to go out secretly. The gamekeeper knows that Martin had promised to cooperate with German Gestapo, after he had experienced a hard interrogation. In avoiding to be a grass, Martin leaves Prague to hide in Slovak mountains. Tkác wants Martin to inform on his colleagues who hide guns in the forest to ready to use them against Nazis.
