Bodo Fürneisen

Founded in 1954 as the “Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst”, today's “Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen” is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The documentary traces the history of the university. Graduates of the school have their say and excerpts of student films from five decades are presented.

A wicked witch locked Rapunzel in a tall tower without doors. Whenever she wanted to enter, the witch would call, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair", and Rapunzel would lower her extremely long hair for the witch to climb. Years pass until one day a prince, riding through the forest, heard her beautiful singing and was captivated.

The impoverished and homeless orphan girl Anna Barbara sets out in search of the mysterious golden thaler. The rag collector Hans Geiz offers her the promise of it if she toils in his underground kingdom for three years.

A widow has two daughters. Louise, lazy she spoils and Marie who dutifully and eagerly helps her mother around the house. One day Marie falls into the well and wakes up on a flowery meadow in a land of dreams, where even bread and apple tree can talk.

Wealthy Elvira Hertzfeld and clarinet-playing homeless man Paul Heisenberg would probably never have spoken to each other if Elvira's elegant dog Minou hadn't fallen for Paul's good-natured St. Bernard Sunny. But when the enthusiastic Minou pulls her mistress to the ground in the pedestrian zone, Paul takes care of Elvira, all cavalier. It is the beginning of a tender friendship in which both gradually put aside their reservations. Elvira even decides to offer Paul, who is at a loss for a place to sleep, the garden shed in her villa as emergency accommodation.

The opera singer Ludwig Löwenhaupt wants a proper festive roast for Christmas, so he buys a goose in advance to feed the whole family. What he doesn't realize, however, is that the children, Elli, Gerda and Peterle, will grow fond of the animal, which is christened Gustje, and will no longer want to eat it. After the "liberation", the "five kilos of meat", which were initially locked up in the cellar, become a pet that the children take to bed with them and communicate with. But shortly before Christmas, father Löwenhaupt still wants to slaughter them. However, as his family protests and his conscience gets in the way, he can't slaughter the goose after all. So Gustje only has to leave a few feathers as proof that she has been plucked, and the opera singer is given another goose that has already been cut up.

The anesthetist Dr. Katrin Klein is new at the Dresden Transplant Center, which enjoys an excellent reputation. The star surgeon Prof. Gerhard Harrer works here. Katrin has known and admired the professor since her assistantship. But then her heroic image of Professor Harrer begins to falter. The young doctor seems to be the only one to notice that the luminary apparently has an alcohol problem. But nobody believes you. When Harrer finally collapses in the middle of an operation, he is suspended from duty. Katrin stands by him, but more problems are waiting in the clinic.

The king turns 70 in a few days, when he is supposed to give up his crown. His sister has waited for this day all her life: Finally, she will step out of her brother's shadow and assume power in the realm. Or will the king's son assume the throne instead? Only if he has a princess at his side.

When Ruth voices her fear, the company turns on the works attorney Robert. He turns out to be Ruth's old childhood sweetheart.

On a business trip to Seville, where she is supposed to handle an important project for her father's company, Viennese construction manager Lisa Werner meets flamenco dancer Ramon. The passionate young man literally kisses the pragmatic career woman awake. But their love doesn't seem to stand a chance, because Ramon is already committed.

Matthias, son of popular rural Lutheran pastor Oskar Brendel and his wife Karin, about to graduate without honors unlike his emigrated big brother, is a pubertal rebel and hopelessly in love with local Maren Grothe. After he picks a fight at the village fair with her flirt and storms off, Maren s found comatose under the watchtower. Missing, Matthias is the only suspect, making the clerical family generally mistrusted. Karin finds her son, whose innocence she believes, apprenticing carpentry on the island where his buddy loves with his father Volkmann. Matthias explains he ran having seen his father Oskar refused ending an affair with Maren, who jumped as suicide attempt. The Brendels consider the due consequences.

Carola and Dieter Martin have been married for 25 years. After Dieter dies in a car accident, Carola finds out that he was gay and had been in a relationship with the much younger lawyer Tobias Volperius for six years. Deeply shaken by this discovery, she withdraws from the outside world and tries to drown her sorrow in alcohol. When she attempts suicide, it is Tobias who finds and saves her. As a result, the two become friends, and Tobias is able to help Carola save her late husband's furniture business, which has been run down by fraudulent proxy Viktor Lipinski and is about to be taken over by another company.

The noble Madame de la Lommerane lives her life with pleasure and sophistication, naturally according to her social rules. Her partner, the Marquis d'Arcis, does not play along with her game—he has his own ideas about life. To counteract the somewhat tired relationship, she plays along, pretending that her infatuation has faded...
