An ancient Latvian folk tale is the basis for this colorful animated feature in the tradition of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. A vengeful sorceress casts a kingdom’s princess into a deep sleep at the top of an icy mountain, where she awaits release from the spell that will destroy the land. Of all the men vying for the honor, the shy outcast son of a family of thugs is the most unlikely. Director Kalnaellis brings a playful sense of humor to the characterizations and adds zippy contemporary elements including a chorus of wisecracking crows. (Gene Siskel Film Center)

Liv's estranged alcoholic dad is about to die. The doctors at the hospital make no sense. Her boyfriend is about to have a midlife crisis. Her washing machine is broken. She thinks she'll be fine as these are regular adult problems. Spoiler alert: she won't.

A granddaughter spends a week with her grandparents and falls in love with their kittens. However, when her grandfather, without attempting to discuss or understand, prepares to drown the kittens, the girl rebels against the incomprehensible morality and power of adults.

Despite her frailty and longing to end a bitter feud, the mother of the Indrans household remains a formidable matriarch. Her strength is especially evident in her confrontations with Ieva, whose actions she cannot forgive after discovering that her son’s letter was deliberately forged. The woman who once yearned for peace now finds her heart stirred by a deeper sense of injustice.

“Collective.Me” is an ironic comedy about the concept of lies and loss of faith. In a small village, a paper mill is expecting a visit from the Ministry. While the director and his team is looking for creative tools to subvert official’s attention, something much more important slips by unnoticed.
