Portrait of a traditional, rich and decadent family from Bogotá, dominated by evil Brigida "the grandmother" who mistreat her sons and daughters to please his favorite grandson "Hernancito".

1954, in the small mountain town of Colombia, Alfonso, an 11-year old boy whose mother passed away, doesn't have any family and to survive has no other recourse than to leave school and begin working as errand boy at a local pharmacy. There he learns all of the basic concepts of medicine, which changes his life in spectacular fashion.

A young balladeer raised in the United States returns to Colombia to continue her career. Her plans do not align with her mother's, a famous singer of tropical music, and their clash is inevitable. The girl flees her home and frequents the spaces of musicians and artists with revolutionary tendencies.
