During the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Northern Song Dynasty, there was a water monster on the banks of the Bianhe River. The Kaifeng government was instructed to send its saber-bearing guard Zhan Zhao to pursue the clues. They deduce that the beast is made of a machine and, with Deng's introduction, they go to the Qiankun Palace, the residence of the most famous machine master, Sheng Luban

After a fateful bicycle collision, two opposites—Du Yifeng and Qiao Bin—go from rivals to business partners. As hidden family secrets and unspoken feelings surface, they, along with friend Nan Yu, learn to face their emotions and grow together, finding balance between friendship, love, and ambition.

The story is based on Chang 'an in the period of Emperor Yizong of Tang Dynasty, the Five Fingers Mountain of Buddha which located on the road the West, and the design prototype of Lin Tuyi, the leading role, is based on Erlang God. Lin Tuyi was brought up in the mountain of Cliff Village, isolated from the rest of the world, obsessed yearning to the King City, and desire to become a martial arts master, and walk around the world. The arrival of King City's army broke the quietness of Cliff Village, blowing up chaos, and lead to the love story of Lin Tuyi and the fox "Hula-ling".

The two clans battle for dominance of the Hanging Bones. Qian Xun, the leader of the Dragon Clan, signed the "Xuan Bone Book" for the Bao clan to end the thousand-year fight with the Spirit Clan. However, the two races have been in peace for hundreds of years, but they have been fighting again.
