Thirty-something Isabelle spends her time going from her tiny, solitary West Side apartment to that of her grandmother on the Lower East Side. While her grandmother plots to find her a romantic match, Isabelle is courted by a married, worldly author, Anton, yet can't seem to shake the down-to-earth appeal of Sam, a pickle vendor.

Set after the Second World War, Timothy, an eight year old boy, befriends an abandoned, broken light bulb. Timothy's belief in the light bulb is so strong, that when his town suffers a blackout from a winter storm, the light bulb shines and lights the way.

Jonathan is a hitman, while Lisa is a runner for a drug lord. When the boss sends a hitman after the drug lord, Jonathan is assigned to take out the runner. To his surprise, it's his sister.
