Maria da Conceição Evaristo de Brito (Belo Horizonte, November 29, 1946) is a Brazilian linguist and writer. She had a prolific career as a university researcher and professor. She is one of the most influential literary figures of the postmodernist movement in Brazil, writing in the genres of poetry, the novel, the short story, and the essay. Her works address themes such as racism, social inequality, identity, memory, and—above all—the lived experiences of Black women, employing comparative literature to gain a critical perspective on these subjects.
Acting credits
NRIn 1978, young Black people gathered at CECAN in São Paulo and created Cadernos Negros. The publication has featured over 300 authors. In 1980, the group formed the Quilombhoje collective. Since then, the series has alternated between poetry and short stories, expanding the visibility of Black Brazilian literature.
