Vadim, a part-time dump truck driver in Leningrad, picks up an extremely young woman, along with a newborn baby. Vadim is forced to spend the rest of his day with Anna, helping her untangle herself from unpleasant, dramatic, and even tragic situations – and she and she alone is to blame for all of them. The baby, which Anna stole in order to make an impression on an estranged lover, is finally returned to its parents, but the problems that the theft caused remain.

A film about the friendship between the workers of the Uzbek collective farm 'Leningrad' and the city of Lenin. This friendship has grown stronger and developed over more than four decades. The film takes us back to the distant and difficult 1920s, when the farmers of Fergana sent a wagon of fruits to the workers of the Putilov factory. In return, the workers gifted the collective farm two tractors and sent their representatives to help set up the new machinery.

The film takes place in Uzbekistan during the Great Patriotic War. Pulat and Bahor love each other, but the happiness of the heroes is prevented by a rich friend of the parents of a girl who sees her as her future wife.

At the beginning of "perestroyka", city authorities are getting ready for another event in keeping with the spirit of stagnant times. A director with a rather "unyielding" character is assigned to make a film about the birth of the one millionth inhabitant. However, when he finds the heroine of his story, there is no much "positive" to show as this family hardly suits for advertising happy life...
