Why? (Czech: Proč?) is a 1987 Czechoslovak drama film directed by Karel Smyczek. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. The film deals with the hooliganism in Czechoslovakia, particularly with the fans of football club Sparta from Prague, whose supporters were the pioneers of the football fan riots in Czechoslovakia, starting with hooligan actions already in the 1960s, like breaking the trains in which they travelled when they went on Sparta's away games. A fourteen-year-old girl isplaced in an institution for mentally ill instead of a foster-home due to an official mistake. Here she gets a most cruel treatment which is governed by high-handedness of the spineless and perverse nurses. The girl attempts a desperate escape.

In May 1945, a broken violinist lies drunk by a creek, haunted by memories of his life before and during WWII. Once the celebrated first violin in spa orchestras, he married Jewish nurse Róza and dreamed of fatherhood, only to face brutal anti-Jewish persecution. Relegated to second violin, he spirals into alcoholism and betrayal, while Róza and their daughter are deported. Cast out by colleagues and lovers, he descends into madness, murdering a vagrant with his violin case. In a final psychotic haze, he tends a roadside Christ statue before collapsing, his shattered life a testament to love, loss, and atrocity.

A group of children are helping a good spirits who are living in a cave near school.

The children's detective story describes a thrilling and cheerful search for a lynx that someone stole from the zoo corner of the house of pioneers and young people (the creators apparently assume that large carnivores are commonly bred in the children's facility). However, the film is made completely ingeniously, the naïve plots hardly catch the eye. In one of the last roles, Vladimír Menšík will introduce himself as a police captain, leading a long-complicated investigation

A psychological story of a young woman who, after two failed marriages, finds the strength to fight for her independence and lost self-confidence. After Ondrej's death and the disappointment of her second relationship, she returns to Ondrej's parents with her son to start working and living again.

On 25 April 1605, the knight Milota was killed by the royal armourers while escaping from the castle of Temice. However, the robbed treasures were not found in his possession. Almost 400 years later, Jindra, Tomas and eighteen-year-old Alena spend their holidays at the castle with their grandfather, the castellan. The castle needs repairs, but there is no money for them. Tomas and Jindra decide to find Milot's treasure, which could help the castle. The visitors are guided by Alena and two temporary workers, Roman and Petr. Among the tourists, Professor Horák, who shows a suspicious interest in the castle's collections, attracts the boys' attention...

Even the best of friends can fall apart, often all it takes is a minor misunderstanding. That's exactly what happened to two village friends, children finishing elementary school, between whom hostility and suspicion suddenly set in. The mosaic-like plot contains a number of humorous observations, but overall it distances itself from any ambition to deeply affect the mentality of adolescents, much less the countryside.

A detective story set in a youth mountaineering club. One of the members, Ivan Kočička, nicknamed Kocour, single-handedly investigates the mystery of the body of an unknown man, which he discovered in a cave on top of a rock.

In one royal forest, where coal miner Patočka lives and works, the friendly dragon Mrak settles down. The king's lackeys come across him while hunting and, terrified, go to sell the news to the king. He is currently organizing his daughter Viola's birthday party. The hunters describe the dragon in terrifying colors, and so the king concludes that the dragon will, according to tradition, want the king's daughter. So he announces a reward for killing the dragon, but no one wants to fight him. The only one who applies is the princess's favorite, the lutenist Marian, but the king does not like him, so he throws him out. Her brother Jan wants to save the princess, but the king doesn't want to allow it...

In his feature debut, Dneska přišel nový kluk (A New Boy Started Today) from 1981, the director Vladimír Drha set the tone for a number of Czech films, which critically depicted the state of society from the perspective of young protagonists. Although, Drha primarily found scope for his work in television, he returned to the world of a “working youth” in his second film Mezek (The Mulish Victor, 1985) – albeit following him from the point of view of an educator. The story of a music academy student Zdenek, who meets a charming girl, and without realizing also gets a son with her. Dealing with such a situation is not easy, especially when one day the child's mother disappears. Twenty year old Zdenek faces a serious decision. Although he is aware that a child may endanger his studies and perhaps even future career, he refuses to entrust him to the care of the state institution.

A group of boys are spending summer riding their bikes across the city but suddenly they are forced to fight a group of thieves.

Pistolník is a teacher who rules the boys' boarding school of a vocational school with a firm hand. Room No. 135 is Pavel, Tonda, Roman, Slavek and especially Olin, nicknamed Koblih, five classmates who, with extraordinary imagination, drive Pistolník crazy with new and new Canadian pranks. Their recessions are only put to an end by the arrival of a new and young teacher, Kamila, who is not affected by their tried and tested tricks. Despite their seemingly carefree life, each of the boys has his own problems, which gradually surface, and so in the avalanche of funny moments, a serious tone is occasionally heard.
