Vladimir Karasyov

A lawyer defends a wealthy woman accused of murder. She claims it was self-defense. The lawyer is not sure.

In this affectionate, leisurely paced comedy, an Odesa policeman is out walking his beat when he discovers an adorable infant abandoned in a cabbage patch. He does his duty and takes the baby to an orphanage, but later he and his wife, who have an unusually affectionate and cozy relationship, decide to try and adopt the little one. What they must go through to accomplish that goal is anything but straightforward.

Olga and Butkevich, the head of the convoy, meet at a roadside cafe. They hadn't seen each other since the beginning of the war. During the conversation, it turns out that a man with the surname of Olga's first husband, whom she considers dead, is working in the convoy. Butkevich arranges a meeting for them. Olga does not recognize him.

The main character Vorobei is a professional grave digger and alcohol addict, who runs away from hospital to dig graves instead of treating his head broken by his brother. He comes to cemetery and keeps on working, instead of his friends' advice to stay in the hospital. The world of death turns out to be surrounded by corruption, satanic money-making, cemetery mafia and lots of vodka.

A judge is devastated after the death of his wife and is neglectful of his children. His son befriends the children of a street beggar who live in an abandoned, derelict church. After his experience with his new friends, the young boy begins to feel sorry for his father and sympathizes with his loneliness.
