Naive, the latter quickly becomes formidable, especially since his wife's infidelities have provided him with the material for a new novel.

Guitry reprises his role as Pasteur which he played successfully at the Vaudeville Theatre in 1919.

A swarm of private detectives, second-hand sleuths, embark on the most diverse tracks. Arrests pile up and the chase continues amid the non-stop games. The culprit will however be caught, red-handed, by a young inspector wearing a handsome mask.

In this adaptation of "Les Deux Orphelines," two sisters are separated during the French Revolution and face a series of hardships as they attempt to find each other again. Their story unfolds against the backdrop of political unrest and social upheaval in late 18th-century France.

At the start of the First World War, two next-door neighbors find themselves companions in misfortune. Faced with the horror of the trenches and the fear of death, they grow closer and become friends. But will these strong feelings that the war engendered survive a return to daily monotony?
