Luc Froment, a reform-minded engineer, starts working at a steel mill in a small town. There he founds small groups of workers (and their families) under miserable conditions. Under the influence of Fourier's ideas, Froment tries to turn the mill into a workers' co-operative.

The early days of the French Revolution, as seen through the eyes of the ordinary citizens in Marseille and the royal court, including King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

Professor Poponof, an old scientist, has just discovered a truth serum. Amédée, a burglar who has been surprised in his apartment, will become the perfect guinea-pig for testing the prof's last find. And it works well. Too well in fact, for if Amédée tells the truth he tells it to everybody and in every circumstance, thus causing disasters around him.

After he is thought dead, a painter who had no success before suddenly becomes a man of repute, and a statue is even prepared in his honor.

A poor boy, having consented to play the role of the victim in a fake car accident story, is also invited to marry in the place of his crush who wishes to keep his freedom.
