Niño de Elche

A modern, cinematic view of flamenco as a living art form, defined by the push and pull between tradition and innovation.

"Nueve Sevillas" is a heterodox psycho-geographical profile of the new flamenco in Seville. Nine characters coexist with the great flamenco artists of today.

The film aims to answer two questions: What is flamenco? Who is the singer Niño de Elche? This child prodigy, who inspired artists such as C. Tangana, started challenging the rules of flamenco in his adolescence, which led to a violent confrontation with his family and flamenco fans that continues today.

A reflection on memory from the work by Juan de Ávalos, the sculptor responsible for the Valle de los Caídos.

Niño de Elche leaves the curtain ajar in the moments before the premiere of his show Coplas Mecánicas, with Israel Galván at Sónar Festival 2018.

Multidisciplinary Catalan flamenco singer Francisco Contreras Molinas, known by the artistic name of Niño de Elche (The child from Elche), sets off to Bolivia aiming to discover the origins of music and reach the very core of the art creation process. Along this existential quest in the depths of the Latin American soul, full of extraordinary acquaintances and experiences, he will reacquaint himself with his innermost feelings, reshaping his relationship with music, with his family, with life as a whole. A self-awareness journey embarking for the final liberating destination: the child hidden inside us all.
