In a town that seeks to attract minorities, the Koga family has lived for many years with a deaf father and brother. One day, a Kurdish family moves into the town, and a small misunderstanding leads to conflict between the two families. Called upon to mediate are Natsumi, the only hearing member of the Koga family, and Hiwa, the only one in the Kurdish family who speaks Japanese. As the two begin to develop feelings for each other, tensions between their families only deepen. Then one day, a doodle drawn by Shun, Natsumi’s younger brother, escalates the small clash into an issue that involves the entire town.

Freshly arrived from Tokyo with his father after an acrimonious divorce, the shy Akira escapes into drawing and agrees to participate in a mural project to mark the end of the institution.

Junior high schoolers Sudo Ai and Sosuke Ito live together as a patchwork family in a small town in Hokkaido, all thanks to Ai’s mother, Yumi, creating an environment of love. Bullying and the harsh environment cannot pierce that safety until Yumi dies. Cast adrift, the kids are separated, Ai is taken to Tokyo by her father, and Sosuke is left behind.

Kasumi, a high school student, has lived her life with curling in a scenic town near Karuizawa, home to the oldest curling field in Honshu. In her elementary school days, she won the championship with her childhood friends, on the team called Miyo Stella. However, the team later disbanded, and Kasumi was left feeling depressed. Meanwhile, the town was in the midst of an international curling tournament being held locally. Kasumi's passion is rekindled, as she thinks, "This is my chance to play in an exhibition match at an international tournament where I can compete against strong teams that will be competing in the Olympics!"

Girls spend their time idly, end up in a field of sunflowers in full bloom, where they come to a crossroads.
