About the great Czech satirist Jaroslav Hašek, who was captured by the Russians during the First World War. Not wanting to fight for the interests of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Hašek enters the Red Army and, as a commissar of the international brigade, goes the military way from Samara to Irkutsk.

Kulak Walter's successor, Robert, calls his fellow villagers to form a collective farm. The poor peasantry of the village actively supports his call. The first collective farm of German colonists "Rote Fane" (Red Flag) is created. Local kulaks begin to fight against him. Under the influence of the kulaks' agitation, part of the middle-class colonists went to Germany. The collective farm grows and becomes stronger, and the kulaks weaken. On one of the islands, a small group of prisoners, led by Colonel Zakharov, prepares an uprising. The course of events was accelerated by an action taken by French prisoners of war. They barricaded themselves in the bunker and were ready, sacrificing themselves, to undermine the fortress.

Joto is a famous doctor in one of the villages of Abkhazia, although he hastened the lives of many sick people with his ignorance. After Joto's next victim, the village communes and the village council decide to build a hospital. Joto is against that idea, but his child's injury will make him change opinion.

Sergo and his wife Maro do not spare their care for Alyosha, who was taken out of an orphanage. The family's peace is disturbed by the arrival of an old friend, Sandro.
