The main character, nineteen-year-old Anastasiy Chizhov, was appointed commander of the Zver patrol ship. Under his leadership, the old fishing vessel becomes a strong fighting unit.

A Marine's presumed death leads his fiancée to marry another, only for him to return, leading to a tragic, symbolic end for him despite his physical survival.

The film is about a group of people who in other times wouldn't have anything in common, some of them innocent bystanders, some moral criminals. But nothing is straightforward and simple. From Russia "the flight" continues to Constantinople, to Paris, back to Russia. Some of them have understood that they can't live outside Russia and go back maybe to be happy, maybe not, some go back to face sure death for their crimes, some don't go back and know that are going to miss homeland forever, some are comfortably well off (are they?) in exile.

The plot begins in the Soviet Union showing first efforts to establish the Czechoslovak legion in 1942. The film also shows the assassination of Heydrich and the subsequent annihilation of Lidice. The main topis of the film is battles with German troops for Sokolovo.

Danka's and Ksanka's childhood in the village brutally ends when their father is killed by a White Guard officer in front of their eyes. Seeking revenge, they join forces with Valerka, an intellectual from big city, and the gipsy Yashka, but before they can get close to their enemy they have to help their village and the advancing Red Army.

Because of the shepherd's negligence, a herd of cows almost died. But the decision to reconsider the case is delayed: Birulin is hospitalized with a heart attack.

Soon the young people decide to get married. Due to a long snowstorm, no guests come to them, from time to time the newlyweds bicker, Lisa’s blues return - and the young wife decides to leave...
