A-Seyd Kazem, the guardian of the neighborhood, is the lover of his sister-in-law, Zinat. He rejects Zinat's suitors, including Teymour, until Davoud, the son of his old friend Jalal, comes to Tehran from Shiraz and becomes interested in Zinat.

Saeed, who is struggling with addiction, is having conflicts with his family. Mrs. Saberi, Saeed’s wife, leaves their home and turns to Jalal, an old friend for whom she used to work, asking for his help in collecting her outstanding debts. In a barren land, a family lives. The three older brothers of the family decide to take over the neighboring land in order to cultivate their own property and make use of the abundant river that flows through that land. Thus, a fierce conflict arises between the two families, and in the meantime, the youngest brother of the family becomes acquainted with the daughter of the owner of the neighboring land and falls in love with her.
