In 1919 in Corrèze, in the small village of Saint-Roch, women are fighting against the desertification of the countryside and the lack of men during and after World War I.

After the arrest of his mother, who is accused of collaboration, 14-year-old Theo decides to go join his grandfather in Paris. On the road he meets Marie, an 11 year old orphan.

60 years ago, pianist Julie Bernstein was involved in an accident while her sister Gloria was taking a risky car ride. Her hands have been mutilated ever since and she suffers from cancer. When Julie learns that she was deceived by Gloria during a love affair in 1917, she swears revenge.
