NRThe 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, was the 14th European Championship for men's national football teams organised by UEFA. The final tournament, between 8 June and 1 July 2012, was hosted for the first time by Poland and Ukraine, and was won by Spain, who beat Italy 4–0 in the final at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine.

The Europa League match against FC Copenhagen marked his final appearance. The 37-year-old left behind a successful career that included 33 international caps and professional stints in five countries. Yet, it is above all his years with his boyhood club, Malmö FF, that have cemented "Mackan's" legendary status in Swedish football.
