How did two sisters from Tsugaru survive in the big city of Tokyo? The older sister passed the nursing exam and works at a major hospital in Tokyo. Meanwhile, the younger sister works as a menial laborer for a grimy obstetrician in a working-class neighborhood. The older sister, with a saintly face, works as a nurse, but in secret, she is consumed by carnal desires for men, while the younger sister, a naive and innocent country bumpkin, is trampled upon in the hell of adult lust... For some reason, these two contrasting sisters end up fighting over the same man... What will be the outcome of their fate?

Depicts the bloody siege of the fortress of Port Arthur, one of the most strongly fortified positions in the world, during the Russo-Japanese War of (1904 - 1905). In the story dominated the character Lt Takeshi Kogyo (Teruhiko Aoi), teachers, and a reserve officer who became commander of the platoon and later company. At the same time monitors the conduct of the army commander general Nogi (Tatsuya Nakadai), which was commissioned of the emperor Matsuhito (Toshirô Mifune) to the conquest of the fort.

When a young soldier is killed while trying to prevent his younger sister, Kaoru, from being sold into a life of prostitution, his commander, Col. Miyagi, tries to honor his dying wish to rescue his sister. Upon finding Kaoru at a party working as a geisha and later rescuing her from committing suicide, Col. Miyagi allows her to move in with him. Over time, the two grow close, but in spite of Kaoru's growing feelings for him, Col. Miyagi is unable to bring himself to return her love. On the night of his deployment to war, Col. Miyagi finally admits his feelings for Kaoru, but will they ever be able to enjoy a peaceful life together now that a very violent and bloody military revolt is under way...
