Hiroshi Omori

While on a cigarette break in between sets, Koji, a jazz musician, witnesses a murder and runs into a girl, Linda, who is being pursued by the killers. Mistakenly identified as prime suspects, they have to solve the crime but time is running out: Koji has to be back to perform in his club by midnight, as a very special guest will be attending.

Set in Shanghai during the turbulent years leading up to and through World War II, the film follows a group of Japanese jazz musicians and performers struggling to hold onto music, love, and friendship amid political unrest and war. As censorship, nationalism, and conflict reshape the city, their once-vibrant nightlife gradually gives way to disillusionment, separation, and loss.

An old couple, their only son, the son's wife, a young man and his lover live peacefully in a village. Then, a terrifying earthquake strikes that causes a nearby nuclear station to explode. The residents must evacuate, but the family lives on a farm, with only half of the area designated as an evacuation area.

One day, 11-year-old Kaede suddenly collapses during class. After tests, she is diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, beginning a long and painful battle with the disease. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are nothing but harsh for young Kaede, but her only emotional support is Yoshi, who is battling the same disease in the bed next to her. Around the same time, IT company owner Kengo Yanai loses his beloved daughter to leukemia. As a business owner, Kengo has no choice but to prioritize his work, but the loss of his daughter sends his once happy family spiraling into disintegration. Having lost his family, Kengo's only pride in life is that he became a bone marrow donor.
