Capitalising on his remarkable success in On the Buses, Reg Varney took on the contrasting role of a third-rate holiday camp entertainer dreaming of stardom in this mid-seventies comedy feature. Also starring fellow sitcom favourite Diana Coupland and Lee Montague, The Best Pair of Legs in the Business was adapted from an individual ITV Playhouse drama and scripted by Emmerdale Farm creator Kevin Laffan. 'Sherry' Sheridan, a middle-aged compère and drag artiste currently stationed at a caravan site, is low on talent but high on ambition. Convinced he just needs one decent break to launch himself into the big time, he's relentlessly optimistic - but sadly unaware that his family life is crumbling around him. Can Sherry manage to secure both his job, and his marriage?

Susie, a transgender bartender, deals with four patrons who stumble into her place of work. She grows wary of the two men and the two women, the latter of which are underage, and tension begins to mount and escalate between all of the characters.

Late at night a gang of young men refuse to pay their bus fares, and assault the conductor. None of the other passengers or the driver intervene. After the incident everybody involved is interviewed in the studio about why they behaved as they did. Scene’s first play, specially commissioned for the series, was repeated late at night for an adult audience in December 1968, and shown again for schools to mark 25 years of Scene in 1993.

Trish is a lonely young wife in a tense marriage, living at the top of a high rise block of flats. She looks to the police and her husband for help when she finds her baby has been stolen from its pram.
