Mies de Heer

12-year-old Thomas takes rowing lessons and grows rather fond of his teacher. He idolizes his trainer – and when the boy discovers that the person he felt such a love for lied to him in order to sleep with his mother – his heart is broken. It's hard for him to understand why his trainer would prefer to be intimate with his mother than to be with him.

At the end of WWII the Dutch resistance kills a German officer in front of the house of a Dutch family. Years after the war the young boy who witnessed the killing runs into the members of the resistance who committed the killing.

A film about the laborious and lengthy process of becoming old; the deterioration, dementia and eventual death of elderly parents. This is seen and experienced through the eyes of their daughter, the writer Inez Dullemen.

Both bring twists and turns in the boy's life. They accompany his life in different guises, as a teacher, as a cashier, as a customer in a shop, as a psychiatrist, as aunts at a reception. Their fight continues until morals begin to scramble. Because what is actually still good and what is really bad?
