The Galilean Princess Salome is one of the mythical female figures in Western cultural history. Her erotic dance in front of her stepfather Herod is already mentioned in the gospels of the Bible, for whom she has the severed head of John the Baptist brought on a bowl in return.

Puccini's Madama Butterfly, one of the most played operas today, is performed on the Seebühne for the first time. Stage director is Andreas Homoki, who together with Michael Levine's magical stage set with it's subtle landscape paintings brings Japanese flair to Lake Constance, supported not at least by Antony McDonald's colorful costumes.

Hoffmann, the poet, is torn between art and life, love and fantasy, dream and reality. His love for Stella, the singer, remains unrequited, and he takes refuge in alcohol and the world of his imagination.
