Maharaj Singh is a proud owner of several derby-winning stallions, and lives in a palatial farmhouse with his wife, Rukmini and young son, Chimpoo. One day dacoits attack his farmhouse with a view of stealing the stallions.

Shanta, a widow who wants to question the orthodox society, falls in love with Shekhar, a poet. In her quest to fight the system, Shanta's father-in-law, a retired judge, supports her.

Bishen raises his brother Kishen, who falls in love with Radham but loses vision after learning about her marriage. Bishen convinces Radha to undergo eye surgery.
